Standing in the Gap: The Urgent Call to Spiritual Leadership

There’s a gap in the wall—and God is calling someone to fill it.

In a time where culture drifts and foundations shake, standing in the gap is no longer optional. It’s essential. In a powerful and timely message, Pastor Jeremy Eastman challenges fathers, leaders, and spiritual mentors to reclaim their place as defenders, intercessors, and examples of Christ in their homes and communities.

Whether you're a father by blood or by spiritual influence, this is your call to action.

The Assignment of a Lifetime

Ezekiel 22:30 (ESV) says:

“And I sought for a man among them who should build up the wall and stand in the breach before me for the land…”

This is not about titles. It’s not about having it all figured out. It’s about availability.

God is looking for men who will rise up—not just to exist, but to engage. To fight for families. To pray over communities. To guard against the spiritual erosion quietly happening in homes, hearts, and generations.

It starts with presence.

Not just physical presence—but spiritual presence. Emotional awareness. A heart that leans in. A man who shows up in prayer, who listens well, who leads with grace and grit.

When the Walls Are Broken

Pastor Jeremy reflected on the story of Nehemiah, when the walls of Jerusalem were crumbling, and the people were overwhelmed by the rubble. Sound familiar?

Today’s rubble looks different—fatherlessness, addiction, spiritual apathy, broken homes. But the mission remains: rebuild what’s been broken.

Nehemiah 4:14 declares:

“Do not be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your brothers, your sons, your daughters, your wives, and your homes.”

This is a fight worth showing up for.

The Role of the Watchman

Isaiah 62:6 introduces the image of a watchman on the wall—vigilant, alert, and unwavering.

Men of God are called to that same role today. Watch over your family in prayer. Guard your home with integrity. Sound the alarm when spiritual danger is near. Prayer is not passive. It’s warfare. It’s the front line of revival.

Like Job, who prayed daily for his children, we too are called to cover our homes in intercession—before anything goes wrong.

Practical Ways to Stand in the Gap

Here are four ways Pastor Jeremy encouraged every man to rise to the call:

1. Be a Prayer Warrior Make it known to your family that you're praying for them and with them. Start with five minutes. Make it a rhythm.

2. Be Spiritually Present Show up emotionally and spiritually. Don’t outsource your family’s faith. Lead by example.

3. Model Integrity Your life is the sermon your children will remember. Show them what it looks like to follow Jesus in the quiet, unseen places.

4. Rebuild When Needed Have you fallen short? God is a restorer. It’s never too late to repent, reconnect, and re-engage. Restoration begins with a surrendered heart.

You Were Made for This

This Father’s Day message wasn’t just a celebration—it was a commissioning.

Whether you're a dad, a mentor, an uncle, or simply a man of God with influence—you’re needed. Your prayers matter. Your presence matters. Your leadership matters.

So today, stand tall. Get back on the wall. Say yes to the assignment.

And if you don’t know where to begin—start with this:

🙏 “God, help me stand in the gap. Teach me to lead with wisdom, love, and courage. Make me a watchman in my home and a servant in my community. Amen.”
