In the final message of his series on desperation, Pastor Jeremy Eastman delivered a stirring call for believers to pursue God with raw hunger and authenticity—not with polished religion or surface-level routine. When God’s people come before Him with holy desperation, His presence meets them with power, fire, and transformation.
The Essence of Holy Desperation
Holy desperation is not neat or convenient. It is gritty, raw, and real. Pastor Jeremy reminded us that this kind of desperation is what moves heaven and draws God’s glory to earth.
“I never want us to get to the place of being so polished that we’re just going through the motions,” he shared. True revival does not come through perfected performances but through surrendered hearts crying out, “Lord, we need You.”
This echoes the psalmist’s words in Psalm 42:1—“As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God.” Desperation for God isn’t weakness; it’s dependence. It’s the recognition that without Him, we are nothing.
Beyond the Illusion of Perfection
We live in a world that constantly pressures us to put forward a perfect image. On platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook, we can filter our lives to look flawless. But Pastor Jeremy reminded us that God is not impressed with filters or appearances. He sees the heart.
“This is the real us,” he said. “We’re extremely transparent, extremely forthcoming. That’s what God is after—authentic hearts, not staged perfection.”
Jesus rebuked the Pharisees for their polished exteriors that masked empty hearts (Matthew 23:27). Likewise, we are called to step out of performance and into authenticity—bringing God not the “best version” of ourselves, but our real selves.
A Hunger for More of God
Desperation is uncomfortable. It can make us look undignified. Pastor Jeremy drew on the example of King David in 2 Samuel 6, who danced before the Lord with all his might, unashamed to look foolish because his heart burned with passion for God.
“I want the fire to fall,” Pastor Jeremy declared. That fire doesn’t come to the polished. It comes to the hungry. It comes to those willing to push past convenience, pride, or appearances to cry out for more of Him.
He challenged us: Are we content with routine faith, or are we willing to seek God with such desperation that nothing else matters?
Fixing Our Eyes on Jesus
In a world filled with distractions, holy desperation requires a focused gaze. Pastor Jeremy emphasized, “I want our eyes so focused on Him that we see nothing else. We can’t afford not to burn for Him.”
Hebrews 12:2 urges us to fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith. Desperation is not scattered energy; it is laser focus. It’s choosing to set aside the noise of the world, the pull of comparison, and the clutter of busyness to say, “Jesus, You are all I want.”
When God’s Fire Falls
Scripture shows us that when desperation meets faith, God responds. On Mount Carmel, Elijah cried out to God in the face of opposition, and fire fell from heaven (1 Kings 18:36–39). In Acts 2, 120 believers gathered in an upper room, desperate for the promise of the Holy Spirit, and fire descended.
Desperation attracts God’s presence. It invites His Spirit to move in ways that polished religion never could.
Pastor Jeremy reminded us that the fire of God doesn’t just stir emotions—it transforms lives, burns away pride, ignites holiness, and fuels revival.
Living Desperate Every Day
This final message wasn’t just about a Sunday experience. It was a call to live daily with desperation for God. Pastor Jeremy urged us to move beyond routine and allow our hunger to drive us deeper into prayer, worship, and obedience.
Practical ways to live out holy desperation include:
Cultivating Consistent Prayer: Begin each day crying out for His presence.
Unrestrained Worship: Don’t worry about how it looks—make it about Him alone.
Staying in the Word: Let Scripture stir hunger in your heart.
Cultivating Christ-Centered Relationships: Surround yourself with others who are hungry for God.
Choosing Focus Over Distraction: Create space daily to fix your eyes on Jesus.
Conclusion: Be Desperate for More
Pastor Jeremy’s final message in the desperation series is a challenge to every believer: don’t settle for polish when God is looking for passion. Don’t settle for routine when God is calling for revival.
Holy desperation is what draws His presence. It’s what opens the door for His fire to fall. And when His fire falls, everything changes.
Let us be a people who burn for Him—transparent, authentic, and desperate for more of God. May His presence fill our lives, our homes, and our church with fire that cannot be quenched.
